New Month, New Benchmarks, New Faces!

Nichole during the Women's Challenge

Today was the start of September programs and a NEW Benchmark:

"CC Flyers"
400 m run
21 box jumps
12 OH squats
3 rounds

The coaches and staff at Crossfit Central have been working hard to come up with new monthly Benchmarks to replace some of the older ones that have been used for a few years now. Monthly benchmarks are a great way to keep track of your progress and see your growth over time.

There were a lot of new faces this morning, and on behalf of the Crossfit Central community- Welcome!

my Mom aka Future Firebreather!

Speaking of new faces, I have to give a shout out to my Mom- after a year of bugging her about Crossfit, she found an affiliate in Houston, signed up and went to her very first class tonight!

Have you ever talked to someone after they've done their very first Crossfit workout? It's really neat- I heard the excitement in her voice talking about doing a deadlift for the first time in her life, and how she had to do lateral burpees over the barbell and then had to jump rope but she hadn't done that in 20 years! She was worried she would throw up but made it through and her coach was nice and didn't yell at her- all the things we went through, right?!

Crossfit makes you feel like a kid again. Crossfit makes you fall in love with fitness again.... or maybe for the first time in your life. I'm so proud of my mom, and I can't wait to see how this trickles into other areas of her life. Come on, now.... you know it always does!

Have a great week.

Daily Mobility WODs

A few months ago Kelly Starrett was at Crossfit Central putting on his Mobility Cert. It was amazing! If you have the chance to spend a day with this guy, you will not be disappointed.

Kelly has set up a blog with a daily Mobility WOD (MobilityWOD.Blogspot.com). Each WOD takes only a few minutes which is nice- but be forewarned, just like when you look at the whiteboard and think "that doesn't look so bad"- BAM!
It hurts in a good way... and you will be amazed at how your body responds. Check it out!

Here is the WOD from yesterday:

Crossfit and Pregnancy

Check out this article from the Crossfit Journal about Crossfitting while pregnant.

courtesy of Crossfit Mom

There is a lot of misconception about exercise and pregnancy. The general rule is that you should (and can) continue whatever exercise routine you were doing prior to pregnancy. This isn't the time to go all out trying to hit some PRs, but the general rule is to listen to your body. And talk with your doctor :)

The Crossfit Mom site has a great Forum where you can ask specific questions as well as see pregnancy specific programming. All those squats, lunges, and general intensity that we do in Crossfit will for sure help you in your labor as well as your recovery afterward.

Ever wonder how Carey's labor went down? Check it out here. If you know her at all, you will get a kick out of this story.
