April Athlete of the Month!

We have so many amazing women in our community, and I want to start highlighting them as much as possible. Everyone has a story to tell. Some have lost tons of weight, some have gained tons of confidence. Crossfit definitely changes lives, and we want to share these stories to encourage and inspire our Community.

Jessie is in Coach Alex Janss' Women's Only Class at Runtex. Here is what Alex had to say about why she chose Jessie as the Athlete of the Month:

"I have had the pleasure of coaching Jessie for the past 7 months and she has inspired me from Day 1. She has an amazing Heart, Attitude, and Work Ethic. Jessie has accomplished so much, and I know it's only the beginning! She has the ability to go above and beyond her goals which I know will allow her to Be and Do anything imaginable. I am so proud of her and excited to see what is to come!"- Coach Alex Janss
Jessie Before
Jessie Now! Wow!

How did you find out about Crossfit/Crossfit Central? I found about about Crossfit from my friend Wanda. I was talking to her one day and saw that she randomly had huge biceps! I asked what she did and she said "Crossfit! You should join!", so I did. I figured if Wanda could do it, so could I.

How long have you been CrossFitting? I've been Crossfitting since May 2010.

Occupation? I work for Farmers Insurance as a Learning and Development Specialist. I train people to help Farmers agents when they have questions.

Favorite WOD/Lift: I love anything involving rowing, so if the WOD has rowing in it, i'm a happy camper.

Favorite Paleo Meal: A salad loaded with veggies, hard boiled egg and grilled chicken.

Favorite Cheat Meal: Salt Lick BBQ... with the potato salad and cole slaw and BBQ sauce.

I have always wanted to... Go skydiving. I think it'd be such a rush!

Outside the Gym I like to... Enjoy our beautiful town- run along Town Lake, hike the Greenbelt, or sit on a patio and enjoy the pretty Austin weather. I also like to hang out with my dogs, play softball, and listen to music.

How has Crossfit impacted your life/what changes have you seen in yourself since starting? I cannot even begin to describe how Crossfit has changed my life. I still have a long way to go, but the changes that I've seen so far are amazing. I was athletic in high school and then after I let myself go and I didn't put my health first. I had tried many other diets and workouts and never really saw any results that I was happy with. Since starting Crossfit, the results have been dramatic (to me at least!). I have lost weight, lost tons of inches, and have pretty much had to get an entirely new wardrobe. I have more energy and am just a happier person. It's been nothing short of amazing for me. I'm so thankful that I found Crossfit.

In 10 years, I... don't want to look like I'm 10 years older! Hahaha, but I hope that in 10 years I'm still working out and have been able to achieve some of my goals that I've set for myself fitness wise.

Advice for Newbies: Don't be scared! Yes, it hurts. But the pain goes away... in that one area... and then you'll have pain in another area.... Yeah, you'll be sore a lot. But, where you're sore is always changing, so don't be afraid of the pain because it's worth it (and inevitable!). The people are great, you'll feel great, and you'll have made such a great, life changing decision.
